EcoMat is an asphalt product with a green heart. The asphalt industry has long-determined that reducing the temperature of conventional asphalt mixes goes a long way to make a difference in energy conservation and reduced greenhouse gases. While traditional asphalt is applied at very high temperatures, EcoMat is a warm-mix asphalt, and is produced and placed at temperatures 20° to 40°C cooler than traditional hot mixes. This cooler application results in average energy savings of approximately 20% (with greenhouse gas emissions reduced by a similar amount), and EcoMat's performance is equal or better than that of traditional hot-mix asphalts.

These cooler tempertures result in a reduction of binder hardening time and a shorter tenderness stage for new pavement. An extra benefit is its ability to be applied in cooler temperatures than hot-mix asphalts - extending the paving season in Canada's cold climate.
